Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame Announcement

The Comic-Con Museum is thrilled to announce PAC-MAN™ as the second inductee into the Museum's Character Hall of Fame. With his introduction in 1980, PAC-MAN™ has made a profound impact on the video game industry and popular culture as a whole, justifiably earning its status as hall-of-famer.

Maybe you didn't know this, but The San Diego Comic Convention (Comic-Con International) is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation organized for charitable purposes and dedicated to creating the general public’s awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms. This includes participation in and support of public presentations, conventions, exhibits, museums and other public outreach activities which celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture. By definition, this appreciation extends to films and video games - and you thought it was just for comic book geeks and nerds.

For an entire generation (the one represented in Stranger Things), PAC-MAN™ ignited a love of video and arcade games. Those of us who were there for the start of PAC-MAN™ remember going out to an actual place called an arcade where we would line up for a chance to play on an upright machine with a small display window. Friends and strangers stood around and cheered on as we attempted to break high score records for the chance to place our three initials on the leader board. PAC-MAN™ on an emotional level in a way we hadn’t with other video game characters. The museum recognizes the 40 years of the PAC-MAN™ character and its contributions to popular culture, for the many decades of fun it has provided to us all.

Comic-Con will offer several special gifts to supporters of the 2020 Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame virtual induction of PAC-MAN™! That's right, there is a Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame. And a museum! Starting today and running through December 17, 2020 (or while supplies last), fans who donate to the Museum in addition to their RSVP for this year’s ceremony will receive one or more limited-edition tokens of our appreciation.

If you're a fan of comic books, video games, super-heroes, fantastical movies, Sci/Fi TV, or what have you, then you're likely to be a fan of the annual convention celebrating all of that and more. The San Diego Comic-Con has been an institution since its inception in 1970 (then known as the Golden State Comic Book Convention). In the beginning there were 60 or so attendees. Today, there is an estimated 130,000 people populating the three day extravaganza.

With the ever increasing popularity of the cultural phenomenom it makes sense to offer more outlets and venues for the fans to celebrate their rabid devotion all year round. Brick and mortar or virtual, the Comic-Con museum should be of particular intrest to those unable to attend the yearly ticketed event.
