Janus Films Announces Ingmar Bergman Retrospective for 100th Birthday

Janus Films' comprehensive Ingmar Bergman retrospective includes new restorations of over thirty films spanning four decades of filmmaking by the Swedish master. The series will begin with an engagement at New York's Film Forum starting February 7, 2018 and will continue across the country.

No name is more synonymous with the postwar explosion of art-house cinema than Ingmar Bergman, a master storyteller who startled the world with his stark intensity and naked pursuit of the most profound metaphysical and spiritual questions. Bergman directed an astonishing array of tones, ranging from comedies whose lightness and complexity betray their brooding hearts, to groundbreaking formal experiments and excruciatingly intimate explorations of family relationships. He is, after all, Woody Allen's favorite director, one whom the American filmmaker has paid homage to through his own work time and time again (Love and Death, Interiors).

Titles in the retrospective include A Lesson in Love, All These Women, The Passion of Anna, Oscar nominated Autumn Sonata, the triple Oscar nominated Cries and Whispers, Crisis, The Devil's Eye, Faro Document, From the Life of the Marionettes, two time Oscar nominee Fanny and Alexander, Hour of the Wolf, The Magician, The Magic Flute, Persona, Port of Call, Sawdust and Tinsel, Scenes from a Marriage, Shame, The Seventh Seal, Smiles of a Summer Night, Summer with Monika, Summer Interlude,

The Silence, Thirst, Oscar nominated Through a Glass Darkly, To Joy, Torment, The Touch, The Virgin Spring, Secrets of Women, Women without a Face Oscar nominated Wild Strawberries (considered by many Europeans as the greatest film ever made), Winter Light and Women without a Face.

Join Janus Films as they celebrate the centennial of Bergman's birth with a traveling retrospective of his theatrical films, all newly restored and many never before available in DCP (Digital Cinema Package for digital projection). Dates and additional details to be announced soon.
