The American Film Institute (AFI) has announced for the 2017 Film Festival an inaugural, annual retrospective spotlight on one filmmaker of global significance. This year, AFI FEST will present the work of revered American filmmaker, Robert Altman. The retrospective involves screenings as well as discussions of twelve of the artisan's most beloved films. This move historically marks the most films programmed in the AFI fest from one filmmaker. Of course, considering the atmospheric vibe of the renown institution the choice seems rather apropos.
The scheduled dozen includes Altman's breakout production of 1970's M*A*S*H, and a few other staples of the era, such as the nouveau western McCabe & Mrs. Miller, the Neo Noir The Long Goodbye, and the Academy Award winning Nashville. Other popular films among the list are later successes such as his seminal film The Player, the masterful Gosford Park, and his last film A Prairie Home Companion.
The full AFI FEST schedule and lineup in its entirety will be announced closer to the actual dates. AS is the tradition of the best many years, Individual tickets are FREE.
