As my contact at KCET said, "I wanted to pass along the good news". All seven seasons of the celebrated and immensely entertaining British comedy DOC MARTIN are going to be aired from the very beginning on KCET in Southern California. This is in anticipation of the new season that will air in early 2018. And I couldn't be more thrilled about added episodes to this quirky show.
Last January fans received the good news that the series was renewed for two more seasons, which will be the last two for the comedy. Viewers can experience the Doctor’s special brand of bedside manner from the very beginning when season one, episode one kicks it all off on KCET Thurs., June 1 at 8pm, followed by weekly instalments there after. For those who don't already know, this most beloved comedy drama stars BAFTA Award® winner Martin Clunes (Arthur & George, Men Behaving Badly) as Martin Ellingham, a small-town doctor whose truculence and tactless manner causes mayhem in a quirky seaside town in Cornwall.
I discovered this gem of a show by accident when I was looking thru Netflix for new mysteries to watch. Having watched just about every other show even remotely identified as a mystery, I opted for Doc Martin. By the end of the first scene I had fallen in love with the main character. His complete inability to show empathy for others, and his unfaltering ability to diagnose obscure problems accurately time and again is a perfect match of opposites. Week after week, the series has delighted millions of fans with the trials and tribulations of the brash Martin Ellingham, a proud man who was once a celebrated London surgeon who winds up in the sleepy village of Portwenn. Of course, the new physician’s abrasive personality doesn't mesh with the pace of life in the sleepy little town of Cornwall. Martin's sophisticated pallet is off put by the common folk, and yet he learns a little lesson every time. Kinda like the Grinch, his heart grows through his forced interaction with people, but Martin won't be breaking any X-ray, measuring devise any time soon. This is a much slower process. A process that takes several seasons in order to see its full effect. As viewers can now witness by watching from the very beginning.
The next new episodes of DOC MARTIN will premiere on KCET in 2018 seven seasons later, picking up with Martin and his wife Louisa confronting married life together with their baby James Henry. But first you should take advantage of the opportunity and see the show from the very begging starting with the first episode, Going Bodmin. This is when Martin has just moved into town, and after meeting some of the locals, he realizes that adjusting to village life is not going to be an easy transition. In his sharp suits and flashy car, he's a very big fish out of London water. So, why has he moved here in the first place, everyone wonders? Ashamed, Martin tries to keep his reason private, but of course the embarrassing truth comes out. You'll have to find out on your own. No spoilers here!

The die hard fans are much better about explaining the qualities of a great show than any reviewer. No doubt it will whet your appetite for what I consider a brilliant light comedy that would be ruined if American's tried to copy it. I'm not kidding. Lets hope that never happens. In the mean time, enjoy the original as we all cont down to the beginning of season 8.
