1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die is a book that has been around for more than a decade. It’s only logical that someone would eventually blog about the selected films and provide their opinion about just how right the editors got it, or not. Although I disagree with many of the reviews, I value the insights provided by someone who obviously knows from which they speak. Not necessarily scholarly, but because they’ve watched a lot of movies. To me that’s the best education of all.
You’ve more than likely heard of the book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die, but did you know there was a website dedicated to blogging about the movies on that list? I didn’t. Of course, not all of the films have been reviewed as of yet, but there is a useful counter that informs you just how far the blog posts have gotten and a notice stating through what year the coverage has completed. There’s also a handy link that will take you right to Amazon where you can buy the original book on which the site was inspired, or the movies that are on the list.
As I mentioned earlier, I don’t agree with many of the evaluations of the films made on this post. Nor do I like the fact that many plot points are given away in the reviews - I try to avoid spoilers myself. However, the opinions are well thought out and every once in a while agree with my own. And I admire the dedication it takes to approach such a goal as to see every one of the films listed in the book. The accomplishment alone will add so much to the cinematic vocabulary of any individual that it would be hard to argue with their insights. Agree or not, the posts are certainly worth a look.
