In 1967 In the Heat of the Night directed by Norman Jewison, based on John Ball's novel of the same name, starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger premiered in New York. It would go on to declared the Best Picture of the Year by the Academy Awards. It would also garner Rod Steiger an Oscar as Best Actor. This riveting detective story still packs a powerful punch with social aspects that are as topical today as they were in 1967. If you haven't seen it, I don't know what's stopping you. If ever a film earned the title of Best Picture of the Year, this is the one. Included in many a "Best Ever" list, In the Heat of the Night is likely to make your own personal list as well.
